how do i set up a quake III server w/ a router?

i wanna play a game with a friend but we're both behind routers so i dont know how to do it. can someone help me?

What kind of router do you have? Does it support port filtering? what about DMZ host?

smc barricade, it supports dmz... should i set myself to the dmz host? then what ip do i tell to my friend? the ip addy of my ISP and anything else?

You have to set port forwarding on the router to forward the packets coming from your friends computer to your computer that is behind your router. I don't know what port Q3 uses tho.
