How do I set up a dual boot operating system?

I am a newbie.. I have heard some people running 2 different operating system.
Can I do a dual boot with 1 hard drive, do I partition it into two?
so under fdisk, I would make one partition as Primary Dos, and the other as extended?
than I just install one as win9x in the primary dos, and the other extended say win2k?
How would I get it to boot from the extended?
if I said something worng, please help.
thanks..

OK, youve got the idea correct, with one drive you would partition it and install the 2nd OS on its own partition.

I might suggest using software such as Partition Magic to do the partitioning, as it is non-destructive and will save you some hassle. As for the details of setting it up to boot the second OS, if its win2k your using it will do that itself, but youhave to make sure you use the advanced setup option to "choose the partition during installation". Other than that its pretty straight forward, but i would emphasize checking the manufacturers website for new drivers and any compatability problems BEFORE you start the process, as it will save you a lot of trouble in the end.

Finally, do a search for this as youll find A LOT of good info and tips, its a very common topic of late.
