How do I set my Web host to read my Index.htm file?

Just got my website up and running (at www.LincolnsWorld.com)...But when you go to that address, you're met with a File Directory...Not the standard loading of my Index.htm file.

Isn't the Hosting site SUPPOSED to have 'Index.htm or Index.html' as the default loaded file?...My Host site is www.hostpacket.net

thanks for any help!

Hmmm... I'd email the host and tell them this info should be in their FAQ.

In the meantime you could make a copy of your page as Index, Main, and Default .htm & .html...

See where that gets you.

Sigh, tried Index, Main and Default. None worked.

Probably an oversight on their part when setting up my directory...Tsk, tsk, tsk. VERY 'newb' type thing to do.

Here's to hoping these guys have a decent turn-around time on support (these are the kinds of things to deal with when getting Hosting on the CHEAP)

Thanks for the suggestions though dj, much appreciated.

Make a file called .htaccess (no file name, extension is htaccess) Put the following text in there:

Options -Indexes

Upload it to your root directory and see if that works

they look like a decent host.. 7 dollars a month isn't bad for what they offer. i think i like dixiesys/3-95 better though. (slighty biased however)

good luck, i hope you get it all worked ou :)

your site looks good, btw.

NP... email tech support right away... {{I know... you already did, just had to say it.}}

think about switching to 3-95.com....

they're good... I've been through hell with two seperate hosting services but 3-95 has been real good so far

How can you make a file without a name, my system won't let me (I'm on Win2k).

Also, tried the home.htm, no go.

Works fine here in W98 (using Notepad) Try naming it "blah.htaccess" and rename it to ".htaccess" in a DOS prompt window (I just tried that and it renames fine in a DOS prompt)

WHOAH! I got an email reply from tech support already! Nice!

I'll be a dirty monkey's Uncle! The problem was the Capital 'I' in Index.htm...Guy told me to rename to index.htm (with the lower case and now it works!?)

Sheesh.

Well, thanks for all the replies anyways! And thanks for the nice comment on the site, there's PLENTY more to come (including pics and vids of my new Micro R/C cars in action when I get them!!!)

I just went to the website and I get a Toys & Games site. If this is the correct site then things are looking ok so far.
