How do I rename an alias on the Mac Desktop?

Created an alias for excel, now it says Micrsoft Excel Alias. I want to change it to say Excel. It's 10.1 if that matters, and yes I am a noob to the Mac.

EASIEST WAY: click on it and then hit "return/enter"
right click on it, or if you are using one button, CNTRL and left click, then go to get info and then you can rename it. or
