How do I rename about 500 files at once?

I know if you select all the files, and right click to rename, it'll rename with parenthesis

I'm trying to rename the file so it looks something like this: filename#.ext

probably easiest to do through cmd

Yeah... if it's music then use MusicBrainz... saved me a good 10 or so hours by renaming/tagging 3000 of my songs.
