Hi all,

I have an Acellero x2 on my x1900xt and I -cannot- get this thing off. Does anyone know of a relatively foolproof working method to safely remove one ? Hoping to hear from someone who has actually done it and how they went about doing it. I've heard of putting it in the freezer overnight works, not sure how or why, or if there is a proper way of doing this.

Really would appreciate some information on how to remove this cooler from my card. My cards temps are messed up and I need to re-seat this thing with some new TIM. But I can't get the freaking thing off :(

Thanks in advance.

I removed mine by removing all the screws.
Than I ran a minute or so of 3dmark 06. Monitoring the temp.
Than I quickly took it off.
The pads on the ram let go at that point.

Was hot to handle, but still works perfectly.

I didn't have one of these coolers, but I do remember others talking about it. A guy at |H| used a thin blade to actually cut the RAM pads in half in order to get his off.

I had the same problem with two X2s when I moved to watercooling.

The thermopads for the RAM is the issue, they are extremely sticky. Ended up cutting them in half with a sharp thin knife to get the coolers off.

another suggested heating the RAM pads up with a blow dryer and gently twisting the cooler off.

UPDATE: Problem Solved! Anyone else inexperienced wanting to remove an aftermarket cooler:

Use a blowdryer to heat up the thermal pads which were my problem holding the card in place. When its fairly warm, be careful not to overdo it or you could burn ure hands (as i found out the hard way lol :p) anyway.

Moving on, GENTLY turn it right and left until it comes loose. Works like a charm
