How do I remove thick, ugly patches of wax?

Last summer I was learning how to wax my car. Now this summer I've noticed there are some patches of wax that are very dull and water repellant. It's really hard (It was turtle wax) and some parts have raised edges that I can see and pick at to no avail. What detailing products could I use to take off this wax?
