How do I remove the win98 login prompt that appears at startup?

Right-click on the Network Neighborhood icon on the desktop, then click on Properties. Under &quot;Primary Network Logon:&quot; choose Windows Logon and you won't ever be prompted to log in again. Of course, if you actually NEED to log in to a server environment, you can use TweakUI to automatically log you in when Windows starts...

If you previously set a password, win98 will still prompt you even if you change to Windows Logon...

Do a search for all the *.pwl files in your harddrive... one of them should be the username you use to login to Windows... delete that file, change to Windows Logon, and reboot... next time windows starts enter a username but no password... After this Windows will never prompt you again...
