How do I remove the stock heatsink and fan off my Leadtek GF3 so I can mount a BLORB that I just bought. I was gonna use it to cool the chipset on my mobo but my Swiftech 462 is in the way. So instead I want to drop it on the GF3 so I can keep just a little bit more cooler. Is it even worth doing so? I want to be able to put back into stock form so if I ever need to rma it or sell it. Thanks

The Leadtek has a great GPU cooler already. I would say leave it on. Now if you had a Visiontek then i would say go for the blorb, because the fan on the Visiontek is very annoying. If you still want to use it on the Leadtek then you have 2 options, run the card for a while to heat up the glue then pry it off carefully. The second option is to place the card in the anti static bag place it in the freezer for about 30 minutes then pop it off. Also if the card has pushpins make sure you push them out from behind the card with a screwdriver, so you dont break them off and can reuse them. If you do use the freeze trick then make sure you let the card dry fully before installing it, because it will get condensation on it from the freezer. But as i said i would keep the standard cooler on it since it is a Leadtek, plus its wont get too hot if its not overclocked.

I think I'm going to get the VT+BLORB. Should Arctic Silver 2 be applied to the chip? Are the pins enough to hold the BLORB on, or do you need to apply some thermal epoxy as well?

The pins will work just fine. The stock HSF uses pins also. Just get the Arctic Silver 2 Thermal grease, no need to use epoxy. Just make sure the pins on the BLORB go into the same holes as the pins on the stock HSF. If you try to push them in the other holes they will break.

Is it easier to push the pins from the bottom of the card or should some needle nose pliers do? And the fan connector just goes in the original slot that the 2 or 4 pin connector came out of or will it have to be plugged in somewhere else?

When i had mine the 3 pin connector plugged into my MOBO. And no the pins go in from the top not the bottom. I still have a BLORB on my Ultra and its plugged into the MOBO also. It is the same setup as the G3. Just push them in by hand so you dont slip off with pliers. If you go through the top like i said it just sanps right in if you use the right holes.

Ah, 3 pin connector. I read somewhere that said it was easier to push the holding pins from the reverse side to get it out and make it safer. Hope I have a 3 pin connetor on my mobo nearby. Thanks, man.

The LeadTek has a very good CPU cooler as is, the memory heatsinks need to be replaced though if you do any kind of overclocking.

The big GeForce 3 shoot out I read said the Leadtek and the Asus was the worse for cooling, Their HSF were more for looks that cooling and the Visiontek came out on top with the best cooling of all the cards, The real surprise to me was how low the Asus 8200 did in the test

I saw a test also about cooling and yes the Visiontek did win, but the temps on all the cards are well in the range for normal operating temps. The BLORB is just much quieter then the Visiontek fan, thats why i think its ok to use the BLORB.

You take a pair of vice-grips and gently pull and turn the heatsink until it pops off. Then, you take a flat-head screwdriver and gently shave off the glue on the chip.
