How do I remove the smell of dead worms from my car?

I went fishing last weekend, and I left a container of worms in my tackle box. On wednesday ,I drove my car(08 subaru impreza 5 door) for the first time(3 days) and was immediately greeted by the smell of rotting trash.

The worms where in the box, so nothing actually touched my car, but I am wondering what the best way to get rid of the smell is. I tried fabreze and driving around with the windows down, but it still smells.

I borrowed one of these yesterday from a friend, http://www.bissell.com/spotbot-pet/, and I plan on using that on all the seats and carpets. Is it safe to use on the ceiling?

how does that work?

It works by making the car smell like ammonia instead of worms

worms roxanne!

Have a guido friend come over for a ride. The cologne will get the smell out.

Interior shampoo and clean at a good place will do the trick.

There is a difference between removing the smell and masking the smell. Any fragerance, such as perfume, Freebreeze, or such will only mask the smell until the fragerance evaporates. Once it does, the original smell comes back.

Once a vehicle obtains a bad smell, it is almost impossible to get rid of it. The longer the bad smell is in the car, the harder it is to get rid of. You might remember the Seinfeld episode about a vallet with BO. Anyway, I've seen Corvettes and Porsches discounted tremendously due to bad smells. I remember a fellow who purchased a brand new Vette, drove it home and then had a heart attack in his garage while in his car. He was there for 3 weeks. The car reeked so bad that even after replacing the carpet, seats, headliner and other interior parts, the smell was still there. They finally had to part out the car for salvage. You might try and get the car detailed. I've heard filling the closed car with open bags of rice will sometimes help as the uncooked rice will absorb the smell. Good luck. Perhaps you can sell the car to a worm lover!!

Is this the same smell that happens after it rains? I LOVE that smell. I think someone actually made a cologne that smells like it too. They called it 'Worms' because thats when you'll find a bunch of worms on the ground.

grab a couple boxes of baking soda (the ones that you can rip the front of the box off and have a filter built in) and put them under your seats. It worked for me when my car had a musty smell to it from being left in the rain with a window down.

I would definitely clean the carpets first though.

Hmm, I forgot what it is called, but there is a way to get rid of those smells. I used to know someone who cleaned up skunk smell, dead things, and even crime scenes, and it usually only took 24-48 hours to de-funk all the bad smells. It was some kind of enzyme cleaner, but I don't recall the commercial name of it.
Pretty sure it will work for the OP as well dead worms can't be worse than skunk.

I had a cat pee in my car.
After trying numerous tricks, such as vinegar and baking soda, and then just buying a commercial cat urine odor remover, the smell persisted, although it was much better.

But after about half a year, the smell finally faded.

Clean the interior.
Get a plastic container poke small holes in the top. Fill with coffee grinds
Leave in car.
Toss in two fabric softener sheets and also leave them under the seats.
Might take awhile but this got the stench of cigarettes out of my car.

Olfactory fatigue(the friend of anyone who has ever worked in a chem lab for extended periods of time)? ;)

Actually, unless you never leave your house, anosmia?

Ozone.

rent an ozone generator. It'll kill off most organic sources of smell. But if you have a huge heaping pile of worms under your carpet, it might not work...
