How do I remove realtek ac97 audio driver ?

I have the onboard sound but I want to get the x-fi souncard. Do I need to remove the
drivers for the onboard sound ? And if I do , how do I do this ?

TIA

To uninstall the drivers, first check Add/Remove Programs in Control panel and see if there's an uninstaller for it. Then go to device manager and uninstall the sound card from there.

Reboot into the BIOS menu and disable the sound card in BIOS (otherwise Windows will redetect it again when you boot, and it'll use resources unneccesarily).

I checked the add/remove in the control panel and there was nothing there. So in the device manager I just remove where it says realtek ac97 but nothing else right ?
Because theres other things like codecs, legacy audio driver, and a capture device. Do I uninstall those to or just leave them ? Thanks for the help.

*edit* Doesnt look like a could delete the other things I mentioned. Only the realtek.

I actually had this problem a while ago - my mobo sound was shot, and I was trying to get rid of the drivers. In my case, I simply installed a Creative Sound card whose drivers overrode the ac97 ones. If you're planning on installing anthing to replace your mobo sound, you don't really need to remove the drivers - just make sure your pc doesn't use the ac97 as a sound source anymore. If you just want to remove the drivers, I would assume you would remove the ac97 in the device manager.
