How do I remove items from Google tool bar drop-down list?

I have tried to delete prior serches from the Google tool bar drop-down list with no success. Can anyone help with this problem?

In IE, tools> internet options. Click the Content tab, autocomplete button, clear forms.

Nice try . . but, does not clear the Google tool bar!

Click the little down-arrow just to the right of the Google logo in the toolbar and choose "Clear Search History".
