Trying to get rid of Gnash since it doesn't work at all. POS.

Totally new to Ubuntu but liking it so far! If I can get flash working, I'll be quite happy!

I found this:
gnash is the GNU flash player, which is really not very stable and is slower than the official flash plugin. Uninstall gnash and install flashplugin-nonfree (the official Adobe Flash 9 plugin):

sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree
sudo apt-get remove gnash

and that should fix it for ya. You may need to turn on the universe etc. repositories in Synaptic to get the Adobe plugin to install.

...but I don't know what to DO with it, being a total newbie!

Help, please? :(

Find the Add/Remove software thing (it's synaptic but I'm not sure what they called the icon), search for gnash and mark it for removal.

Have you tried "sudo apt-get remove gnash"

ubuntuforums.org might be a better place to ask your question

Until recently I didn't know HOW to type any of that junk in... noone told me I needed to use "Terminal".

So far it seems to be working.... thanks!

You don't need to use the terminal, if aptitude or apt-get removed it then it was in the list in synaptic as well.

Well, I removed it in the terminal (which worked) but trying to install the better of the two flash players just never works. :(

No flash for me.
