How do I remove fog?

How do I get rid of fog from my GeForce 3 standard?

I know if you uncheck Fog Table emulation from the D3D option box, the video display is screwed up.
I need to figure out how to just remove it entirely w/o affecting display quality.

The reason is because some games like NFS: Porsche Unleashed uses fog in an annoying way - I can't see much of the road ahead on some of the maps. getting rid of it would be great on my eyes.

Game developers do that for a reason. The game is very demanding on your system, and without fog, your view distance would be much bigger and the number of polygons that would have to be rendered would bring many systems to a grinding halt.

I play BF 1942 and the fog view distance varies depending on the map. There was a hack that removed the fog, but I tried it and my system bogged way down.

But I don't think it is possible to make a change in your card settings to get rid of fog. It would have to be a specific setting in the game. My guess is fog table emulation will only change the way the card renders the fog and won't help you at all.

yeah i know what you mean

For some odd reason my laptop's video card started to not draw the fog even with all the settings intact.

What this did was not bog the system down but rather show more of the map.

I was playing Rainbow Six and you could see for miles!

Unless there's a setting in the game, you can't disable the fog. And unchecking fog table emulation will just screw up certain games that expect table fog instead of vertex fog.

For some odd reason my laptop's video card started to not draw the fog even with all the settings intact.
It sounds like a driver problem. Is it an ATi board by any chance? Radeons have had problems in the past with fog.

yes it is.

Does this affect all Radeons up to the latest one?

If so, I might just switch to a Radeon instead of my GeForce 3 🙂

The drivers were buggy in the past but they're pretty good now and AFAIK fog pretty much works everywhere.

Do you have the latest drivers for your card?

yea it actually started with the latest drivers.

The original drivers that came with the laptop draws fog properly but w/ the new BIOS and new drivers there are plenty of bugs. Albeit this is a really neat feature and not a bug IMHO 🙂
