How do I remove/cut these nails?

Above the doors in our apartment are these windows that turn on a hinge so you can let air circulate. Basically, the window has a piece of wood on each side attached by a screw. This is the hinge. This "hinged" window has been inseted into the frame and the the slats on each side are nailed into the frame of the door. If I could remove the nails, I could pry out the windows and strip them or even replace them. In the meantime, I am left with dinged windows with 200 coats of paint on them...

Is there a way to get cut these nails by putting a saw between the slat and the frame? What tool / saw would I need?

Can you hit them with a punch and knock them through? What size nails?
pretty thin with no head... (not up on my nail sizes...)

If there your average finishing nails take a punch (nail set) and hammer and knock them completely through the wood. Once you get the trim off pull the nails with a cats paw or hammer. When replacing the trim put some wood putty in the whole and paint over.
