for an '89 ford crown victoria? I'll be installing a new HU for a friend and noticed the weak amp in the trunk with wire harnesses plugging into it.

Why is everyone around here so retarded?

You should be able to bypass it at the amp (just jump over it more or less), or better yet you should just run new wiring (which could be a pretty big pain, though).

they didn't have anything to contribute with, so they bumped it...i'm not complaining. As for bypassing it, you can't...no switch like there was on my explorer with the JBL system, and a total rewire is out of the question.

Bypass it!! Yes you can do it. Just add wires and go around it.
Why are you putting a system in a Crown Vic anyway?

If it's a "Premium Sound" system you may have additional issues. I seem to recall Ford doing some funky stuff with the premium sound gear which made a lot of modifications essentially not attainable. :(

Hmm. Well, the rears wouldn't be hard to rewire at all. If that amp is powering all 4 speakers just run the front outputs to the amp and patch in to the wiring coming out of the amp. I've done this sort of thing before in reverse when I didn't feel like running new wiring for the front speakers in my friend's car.

Maybe his friend's would rather sit comfortably while listening to music, rather than crunched up in the back of an econobox with their knees pressed against their chins? Yeah, that sounds like a cruisin' good time!

Here's a wiring diagram of the 1995 luxury audio system. If you're so inclined, you could jump past the amp in the trunk after you trace the right wires.

Thanks for all the help so far. Crutchfield has a $12-15 harness that will bypass the factory amp. I may just settle with something like that. This isn't supposed to be anymore than an hour project, so i wanna do this as painlessly fast as possible.

Because it comes with a factory tape deck and he doesn't have any cassette tapes. CDs are easier, quicker, and better sounding to make and listen to anyways.
