How do I remove a link from my fossil watch?

My wife bought me a new watch, but it's too big. I need to remove a link (it's a metal band), but I can't figure out how. I know I can take it to the store, but I don't really feel like paying someone to remove one link. Is it possible to remove them without a special tool?

Go to any department store and they'll have the tools right at the watch counter. Better yet, go to the fossil store

With a small poker - push out the pin. They usually have an arrow to indicate which direction to push in and out.

it depends on the link. generally the links have little rods going through the connectors that hold them together. if you look on the side of the link you will see a little circle: that is where the rod is. push that out and the link will come apart. i wish i could describe this in more detail but I can't. it's possible to do but i think it may fall into the PITA category. a lot of jewelery places will do it for you (it takes like 2 seconds) for free, and you can just tip the guy a couple bucks or something.

Yea they do, at least they did for my citizen watch. But it's fairly easy, google for how to do it.

Thanks for the tips, the closest fossil store is 80 miles away. My wife bought the watch off of fossil.com, but maybe I'll try the marshall fields at the mall this weekend to see if they'll do it for me.

Do it yourself, and you could screw it up. I just went to a local jeweler in town and paid the $2 to have some links removed.

the local jewelers do it for about $2-3. anything more than that would be a ripoff. don't do it yourself.

I went to Marshall Fields and surprisingly they did it for free...I didn't even buy the watch there! Before the link was taken out it was too big, now that they took out one link it's almost too small. It still fits, but after going to the gym or playing tennis my wrist seems to be a little bigger and it's kind of tight. Is there such a thing as a half-link or something for in between sizes?

I think you're screwed. I usually keep mine a little big rather than small.
