I just bought (yea.. thanks a lot hotdeals. ;) a Pioneer D850S receiver from Best Buy..

However, the 'learning' remote isn't learning any of my components so I need to get a remote that can control everything I have.

Here are the parts I need to control:

Receiver: Pioneer D850S
TV: Sharp 32"
PVR: Panasonic Showstopper
DVD: Funai (yup, Funai)
VCR: Sharp 4head
Cable: Scientific American Explorer 2200

Can the remote that came with the unit learn that stuff? or do I need one of those fancy touch-screen lcd remote? if so, what should I get? I hear the old palm pilots can be programmed for that stuff too..

Also, I bought a pair of Athena FS-31 speakers and they sound amazing - how do you Audiophiles feel about them?

Probably not- too many (wierd! :p) brand names... if they were all Sony, for example, you'd have better luck. Although I'm still having problems getting my Sony reciever remote, control a same model year Sony CD player.

i would pick up a universal remote (you might have to look for one online) that is able to control all of those types of devices. then, you generally have to program the remote to use them. some kind of code book usually comes with the remote, or you might have to look online for the codes.

Get the Sony RM-AV2100 remote. I have it and it kicks ass. It kicks so much ass that 2 of my friends bought one after using mine. :)
It learns from ANY remote no matter how obscure. In fact I had it able to control a remote-enabled floor fan from across the room! That was a good party trick. :D
