I posted a link above to a screen shot I just took of my system information. I have added the memory and new video card

DIAMOND STEALTH Graphics Accelerator Card Featuring RADEON 9250 PCI Version
RADEON 9250 256 MB | DDR
DVI / Dual Monitor / TV-Out

I only use one monitor and have added 2 GB's of ram.

What steps do I need to follow to reformat my computer with the new video card & ram in place? I have done reformats before but never with new video cards and new ram upgraded. What steps do I follow to do this correctly. Thank you for anyone who has the knowledge to this question.

Do a normal format, after you get Windows up and running install the drivers for your new video card. Everything else stays the same.

Question is- why are you formatting?

Thank you for the information I am wanting to do this as soon as I finish copying files to cd-rw's.

I am reformatting because my computer is slow and bogged down with to much install/reinstall clutter from probably 2 years since last reformat.

Just reformat, it doesn't matter whether you upgrade or not you're still reinstalling drivers.

Ok one more quick question. I have about 11GB's of pictures I want to save in the My Pictures folder. What is the best place to upload these & retreive them from I only have 700mb CD-RW's which will take forever.

You could just partition part of your drive off and move them there. Or you could grab a couple blank dvd's from the store and copy them to that.

I am not framiliar with how to partion off my My Pictures folder and reformat everything else can you explain steps? Thank you.

Use an external hard drive or a flash drive. You can even use a spare internal drive by opening the case and temporarily connecting it as a slave. That could be even faster than using an external device because you won't be slowed down by the speed of a USB port.

Before you reformat, you may want to try a good registry cleaner. I like Registry Mechanic. You can download and run the demo for free, but it won't do the complete cleanup without buying it. I sometimes see it as low as free after rebate, but it's worth the full price if you need it, now.

Others may prefer another cleaner. If you haven't run one, it could clean up a lot of the dross that's slowing down your system.

Hope that helps. 🙂

I am going to send all my pictures to the other desktop hooked up in the other room connected through router files are all going pretty fast thanks again!
