how dare you use AIM. check out trillian - its way better, you can change the sounds and everything

I know exactly what you're talking about. Here's my solution:
Go to C:\Program Files\AIM95\Sounds
Open those files in Windows Sound Recorder.
Under Effects, you can lower volume. Do it however many times you like, save the file and there you go.
Lower volume aim chimes.
