How Do I Recover from Running "Diskpart/Clean" on the Wrong Disk?

I mistakenly ran Diskpart/Clean, using a Win 7 install disk, on a HD that contained one partition with data and no programs . Nothing has been written to the drive since I did this. I disconnected the SATA cable to prevent any further screw-ups.

Researching this situation has led me to Active Data Recovery Products, a firm that offers several recovery products.

I figure I have one shot at making a near 100% recovery, so I want to make the right choice. Any suggestions?

if using a proper/good data recovery program, this is not true

["I have one shot at making a near 100% recovery"]

as a good program WILL NOT write to the drive you are looking to recover data from.

If you want to type the one shot fix (or kill it) approach of recovery software that looks to re-create the missing/damaged data that diskpart caused, then it is up to you.

Personally I use a program called "file scavanger" (IIRC), demo can read the disk, but need a licence to get files larger than 64K IIRC.

Though there are some free programs that will do similar, but I do not keep track of them as file scavanger does the job just fine for me.

I made the same mistake once building a bootable USB drive. TestDisk was able to recover it almost instantly. All you've done is erase the entry for the partition table, which means it's a quick recovery.

Thanks for the responses. I did not see any reponses by yesterday afternoon, so I purchased Advance Partition Recovery. It restored the disk to the condition it was in before I screwed it up -- all 90GB of data in the same folder structure.

I wish I had learned of TestDisk earlier. The Advance product was $40 for the Windows version.

To be fair, Active@ software has a GUI so it's easier to use if you aren't familiar with partitioning (TestDisk is all CLI), but yeah, it's an expensive piece of software for the task.
