When I press Control Alt Delete I get a message that my administrator has disabled Task Manager. I am logged in as administrator and never disabled it on purpose. How to I get it to work again?

Sondra,

Try this reg key:

Hive: HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Key: Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
Name: DisableTaskMgr
Type: REG_DWORD
Value: 1=Enablethis key, that is DISABLE TaskManager
Value: 0=Disablethis key, that is Don't Disable, Enable TaskManager

Note: It may be under Hkey Local Machine .. on some computers
Same subpath

Also see here:

It seems like you picked up a virus on the system. I would suggest
a scan with a good antivirus program to see what it finds.

Thanks for the suggestions. The link was very helpful, since I could pick the easiest of several choices, which was deleting it manually in the registry.

I'm using the pay version of AVG as my protection. Is there something more I should do now that a virus was able to stop the Task Manager? Like reformat the drive or something not as time-consuming?
