I have some .fla files that I need to put into a PowerPoint presentation. I do not have Flash, how can I put them into PPT? Do I need to convert them to another format somehow? If so how? Ideas? Thanks.

I'm not sure if it's possible to do it that way. However what you can do is perhaps to export the .fla file to an .avi
Last i checked you should be able to import a .avi into a PPoint presentation.

The .fla extension is a propitary extension for flash. That is the work file. You would need flash to be able to read it. I do not know of any program off hand tha will allow you to convert a .fla file to another format. If you can get the file itself into Flash itself and then publish it to the .swf extension then you have a workable file. Once you have the swf extension you can run it on any computer and it will use the built in flash payer , if you have it of course, to view the movie.

While viewing the moview you can go to the file menu and create a projector that allows the movie to run independently. After creating the file, you would create your presentation. In your presentation you could create a link, and when the person clicks on the link the movie you created earlier would pop up in its own windows and play.

For the link. say you put the word movie up on a slide. highlight the word movie and right click. select the action settings from the context menu. When the box pops up use the run program option and point to the executable version of the .swf file you created earlier. This is the only way I know of getting a flash movie to work in powerpoint. Good Luck.

Or he could just put the flash file directly on the powerpoint presentation as part of the slide without having to click on anything. Then again it would have to be exported to an avi first tho :(

Yes that is true, but what about the size of the file after it is converted to an avi. When a flash file is published to an .swf file. the size of the file is always a great deal smaller than any other video format available. If you understand the concept of vector graphics and how it works then you will understand why a .swf file is always smaller.

When , and if he converts the .fla to to a .swf file and plays it , as I stated earlier it will give you the option to create an independent executable file. Say the .swf file is 35kb in size, during the conversion it will add another 350kb to the size of the file. The conversion to the executable will allow you to run the movie in its executable format on any machine, even those that do not have flash capabilities ( which are very few today). This give you amazing portability that will not occur if one decides to convert a file to an .avi file file, which are inherently large in size.
