How do I properly remove all traces of previous vid card drivers?

Nocturnal

Lifer
In my currently system I had a 9800XT Radeon. I just uninstalled the card, installed my new Geforce 6600GT and installed the 6600GT drivers. I never bothered to remove the Radeon drivers. Right now I have problems when I view video clips be it streamed or even DVDs. It kinda wiggles or flickers constantly and is very annoying.

How would I go about removing all traces of all of the drivers?

Thank you.

One way to be certain would be to replace your hard drive. 😉

Assuming you don't want to do that, you should be able to simply visit your control panel and go to add/remove software. The Catalyst drivers should show up on your list and you can uninstall them from there.

After you uninstall the Catalyst drivers, I'd uninstall and then reinstall your Detonator drivers. Once you do this, your video drivers should be good to go.

If you do all of that and you still have driver conflicts, that hard drive replacement option may be looking good...

This is the procedure I use to run/einstall GPU drivers .Take it or leave it 🙂

1. reboot and go into safe mode.
2. uninstall video cards drivers in control panel. Dont restart.
3. Use "Nasty file remover" (NFR) that can be found on guru3d.com (dunno if it can be found here) and let it search for Ati and nvidia file.
4. Remove any files it finds. Keep in mind it will also remove any chipset drivers if you have a nvidia or ATi chipset.
5. restart
6.. Either point the automatic installer to the directory where you have the files unzipped OR usethe installers after having cancelled all the "install autotically" popup windows.
7. Make a final restart and Voila.

If that doesnt work I dont know what will 🙂

EDIT: Driver cleaner above is a good program too. 🙂
