Hey guys. Well the day is finally here. I got my cd of WIN XP, I got some free time, so I am gonna reformat my win 2k machine and upgrade to win XP to see how she werks! I have only ever formatted once and I had someone help me with it. All I basically know/THINK I do is close down all my applications, restart in DOS, if u even can, if not just open DOS prompt, and type C:\FORMAT, then YES. Then once that is done I insert my WIN XP cd and boot her up and install XP and all my other shiot. I know I must be missing some steps or even going about this wrong. Last time I did this there were a whole bunch of steps and things my buddy did when he was formatting. HOW DO I CORRECTLY SET MY PC UP TO REFORMAT, AND THEN WHAT DO I DO TO INSTALL A CLEAN INSTALL OF WIN XP? Thanks guys. Listed below is my system specs, just incase. :)

P2 400 MHZ
ASUS P299
VOODOO 3 2000 AGP
256MB PC 133 (running @100) SDRAM
MAXTOR 30 GB 7200 RPM HARD DRIVE
PLEX CD BURNER
SONY 52X CDROM
ETHERNET CARD
SOUND CARD

Thanks guys. REMEMBER this is my first SOLO attempt at this so please help and be DESCRIPTIVE!!!

first up boot up with a dos disk or a windows created system disk...........once you do that....do this C:\> format c:/q and say yes until you get the label prompt........then label your partition........and your done:).......before you do all this stuff......first check if you winxp cd is bootable........change the bios boot sequence options to CDROM drive as first boot device.....if the cd is bootable proceed with the above format instructions and XP should be up.........

XP won't let you format from the CD install? NT and W2K both let you delete partitions when you boot from the CD. Please tell me MS didn't remove this feature with XP.

Boot from the XP CD - you can do all your partitioning and formatting from there, just like W2K.
