How do I prevent a re-ingrown toenail?

Chaotic42

I had my whole nail removed 4 months ago and now it's back. I want to prevent it from becoming ingrown again.

Anyone know what I can do to keep this from happening again? I liked the painkillers, but the limping kind of sucked. I'd like to avoid all of that. 🙂

Podiatrist cut mine out, doused the skin with acid and its gone for good.

Have him try again

Jesus. Shouldn't yopu be suing him or something?

Whole nail???? OWWWWWWWWWWWWW

Both of my big toes used to get ingrown nails, a doctor trimmed the sides of both nails down and killed the nail-growing cells with acid. Haven't had a problem since. I can't believe they took your whole nail out.

After 5 years of pain...I would be more apt to buying him a beer.

That's what I had done, at different times to both big toes. He called it "narrowing the toenail".
Hurt like a sumbitch for a day or two, but well worth it.

That's extreme.

I had my ingrown toe nail dealt with as an out-patient at a local hospital. In and out in about 1/2 hour. He removed the part that was ingrown and made sure that it wouldn't grow back at that spot anymore. I had a couple stitches there and my toe all bandaged up. It hurt like a ah heck the next day. I discovered the pain was from swelling and the toe couldn't swell because of the bandages. So I removed the bandages and my toe felt much better. No need for painkillers.

Sounds like what I had done as well. I was in so much pain before though that the gaping bleeding holes in my toes felt 10x better though.
