I'm trying to play the original Syndicate game, but when I execute the game it says it will reboot in Ms Dos but it just restarts to Windows again.

I've heard something to the effect that sometimes the processor runs to fast for older games, do I need to slow the processor down or will some games just not run on newer PC's?

there are some games that don't do well with a fast cpu but considering that it's an older dos game, I think you're having a memory manager conflict. W98 is very teritorial about upper dos and himem, and many of those older games require at least 560 K of free memory.

you may have to go to advanced setting and actually write specific autoexec.bat and config.sys files that will force W98 to reboot and use the set-up you want.

might be easier to just develop a boot disk that will do the same thing, then when you want to play the older games, boot from the floppy and just stay there. After you're done pop out the floppy and reboot and you'll get windows back.

I have an old favorite (Privateer) that has to be worked the same way. When I upgrade this system I may convert it back to a dos machine so that I can play those old games.

good luck

I too tried a boot disk but it doesn't always work great.
DOS games often have a problem using my soundcard at all (SBLive!- from THE biggest soundcard manufacturer on the planet too!)
