How do I play a .jav file?

I dl some java software but I do not know what I am doing.

Are you quite certain about that? The only thing the web is turning up is java source code or japanese porn. Maybe it got renamed somewhere for some reason. If you have a *nix type system you can use the file(1) utility to check what it really is.
