I've been looking at various cpus and then trying to find an ASUS board to match, but there's too much info I am not familiar with. If i'm getting an Intel Core 2 Duo E8500, do I want a board that's got an p45 Northbridge or do I care?

I am not a gamer, will probably not overclock, but have some old PCI and IDE stuff to connect, and have basic video needs. I want simple to set up - works first time - and stable; how do I chose an ASUS motherboard given those desires?

ASUS P5Q LGA 775 seems good, but good for me?

ASUS P5Q Deluxe LGA 775gets most people loving it, which seems like a good sign, but kinda expensive.

Too much info!!

Sorry, I keep changing my mind, and trying to get info on many possibilities. That one thread was March of *2007*!

I bought some of the components already this week, and plan to get CPU tonight, so getting closer.
I do appreciate all the help I've gotten.

You guys are great, and I hope in my 5 years here I've been of help to others!

UPDATE:
bought a mobo and cpu today, so you are all safe now :)
