Hey guys,

I read on Microsoft's site a while back that you can password protect files and folders in XP Pro? Well, I just purchased it and I can't find anything in the manual that talks about it. well, except for the 'encryption' thing, but that doesn't give a password option??

Anyone here know how I can do this? Any info would be great. Thanks!

I too would like to know this, but I have XP Home. I have a folder that contains scanned documents from PaperPort program. I would like to be able to secure this folder so no one can look at it without entering password. The PaperPort program does not have an option to secure its contents. I would rather not have to mess around with multiple login accounts.

Not exactly, under XP Pro. you can set permissions so that only certain users can access files/folders.

I think there are some third party applications that will prompt you for a password when trying to access files/folders but dont know the name of any of them off the top of my head. A quick google search gave me this application:

You cant passwordprotect folders but you can set user permissions to do this..using the builtin encryption is also a good idea.If you really want to password protect get PGP 8.0.2 which is free or go to www.webattack.com and look under file security or some such thing..
