How do I overclock?

Conclusion about unlocking to 16 pipelines:
Hey, so I was only able to change my 6800nu into a (12x1,6), thats 12 pipelines and 6 vertex shaders instead of the standard (12x1, 5) (the 12 pipeline and 5 vertex shaders). This increase doesn't really change my benchmarking a whole lot. Whenever I set it to 16 pipes, the log in and desktop screen would be scattered with black lines that warped around and games wouldn't even load up. I guess that means that my card cannot be unlocked to 16 pipelines? Is there a way to open the pipes successfully? Maybe with different drivers and programs? Thanks for input here.

Overclocking?:
Basically I need some guidelines, and maybe some past experience with overclocking 6800nu's. Whats a good overclock speed for the 6800 vanilla? Default clock: 325MHz gpu with 700MHz effective memory. Thanks for input here.

For the love of non-tech savvy people who want to learn the ropes, please teach me how to OC a 6800nu! Where would a scholar like me find myself homework to do?

Thanks in advance!

When I had my 6800nu, it unlocked 16p 6v and overclocked to 400/825.

So yeah, I guess I was lucky.

You basically overclock it little by little until it either freezes, locks up, restarts, checkboards or catches fire.

I had the same luck with unlocking the extra 4 pipes - it didn't work. If your display is garbled with 16 pipes then you can give up on that idea. To overclock, download and install Coolbits 2:

and you will have extra features in your nVidia control panel; one of them is clock frequency settings. You're starting at 325/700, just up it in 5 Mhz increments with each and test each step with a game/benchmark - you should easily be able to get up to at least 350/750 before things start screwing up. Just take your time and don't go too high too fast.

quick question about coolbits, if you are using an SLI setup and you adjust the clocks, does it change both cards?

Thanks for that short yet extremely informative post.

What benefit does a 6800 with an extra vertex shader have? Like 6 instead of 5, set to (12,6) instead of (12,5)?
