How do I overclock the CPU but not the RAM?

Hey, everyone.

I just got my new Epox EP-8KDA3J and Sempron 64 2800+, and I need to figure out how to overclock the CPU without overclocking the memory. I have PC3200 stuff, so I'm afraid to push it beyond 200 MHz. I heard the Epox board had great overclocking features. Even the manual says it "supports asynchronous FSB/memory and asynchronous FSB/AGP, PCI scheme for overclocking."

When I set the CPU bus to more than 200 MHz, it overclocks my memory. I've tried setting the HT multiplier to 3x, and also setting the maximum allowed memory frequency to 200 MHz, but nothing has worked, so far.

What am I missing?

RAM divider.

166 for light OCing, 133 if you are really clocking up the HTT [FSB].

Thanks! It works perfectly.

Now, when I increase the CPU bus, should I worry about the HT multiplier? Or should I keep it at 4x?

I was wanting to go upwards of 2 GHz, from 1.6.

Do you guys mind explaining what it means to alter the HT multiplier? I'm new to this whole socket 754 platform.

the HT mutliplier controll ur hypertransport speed. Try not to go over 1ghz. HT = HTT x the multiplier

wait, dont s754 systems have a default of 800mhz HT? so he should keep it below 800. your default ratio is 4x right? reduce it to 3x, and then 2x if you need to.

I think some newer S754 boards allow for 5x HTT.

If your max multiplier is 4x, keep your HTT below 800. So lowering your HTT multiplier to 3X is good up to about 266 HT.

Okay, I've gotten it up to the following...

CPU: 1.92 GHz
HT: 720 MHz
RAM: 200 MHz

So, basically I'm getting a 20% CPU overclock, but a 10% HT underclock, while keeping the RAM at stock speed.

By the way, I did that with a 200W PSU with a 10A +12v rail. But even I'm uncomfortable with that weak of a PSU, so I went ahead and got an Antec SmartPower 2.0 350W with dual +12v rails. It's overkill, I know, but I wanted to get it today--and that meant CompUSA.

you can raise your HT multiplier to 4x. It should be fine. My epox ran the HT at 1ghz with no problem.
current settings:

cpu: 2.560ghz 60% oc :)
HT : 320mhzX3=960
mem: using 1:2 ratio and ram @ 160mhz with 2:2:2:11 timings
