I am running a celeron 300a@424 on an SY-6BA+ IV. I have infineon pc100 ram(cas2). If i up the bus over 100mhz, will the memory overclock on it's own, or do I have to do something else? i'm new to overclocking so be gentle;)

the BX chipset does not have the ability to overclock or underclock the memory. For intel CPU's the VIA and i815e allow you to do this.

let me be a little clearer on this one. With the BX chipset, the memory will run at the FSB speed so if you set the FSB to 100 the memory runs at 100. If you set it to 110 , the memory runs at 110.

On the VIA and the i815e chipsets (for Intel at least) most boards have the ability to overclock (or underclock the memory). At 100 Mhz FSB, you have a choice of running the memory at the FSB speed (100 Mhz), the FSB - the PCI (100-33 or 66 Mhz), or the FSB + the PCI (100+33 or 133).

Although I love the BX chipset for overclocking Celeron's - I sometimes use the Soyo 6VCA (via chipset) boards to build up a system. With the overclocking ability of the ram speed, I can take a 600 Mh celeron II (66 mhz default), crank up the FSB to 100 Mhz to get the CPU to run at 900 Mhz and then adjust the Ram speed to FSB + PCI or 133Mhz. In my testing, the overclocking of the ram from 100 to 133 Mhz gives me about a 6% increase in performance of the system (at least on the Q3 time demo loop.
