ok, I got an athlon 3000+ CPU with 1024 ddr400 RAM. i have been told by a few ppl that I should overclock my cpu for best performance. what's the best way to do that?

your going to need to tell us the motherboard your using since that is one of the biggest factors involved

your 3000+ has a 13x166 clockspeed (2158 effective), raising the fsb to 200 will give you 2600 clockspeed, it probably won't be able to reach 200 but if you pump the voltage in (your desktop runs around 1.65 volts) to about 1.8-1.9 volts and have good cooling you should be able to hit 2.4, whether its worthwhile is questionable, in my experience their are few activities that you will see a difference

If it's an A64 it's 9 multiplier by 200 mhz fsb, which is 1800 mhz effective, not 13x166. As for overclocking, there is a stickied thread at the top of CPU/Procs forum which is helpful. What's the brand of your motherboard, or did you build your system?

Edit, you have a socket 754 mobo, googled it. Meaning that 3000+ is rated at 2 ghz instead of 1.8.
