Hi ya guys,
Please does anyone know, whats involved in overclocking my chip
if you can help me please feel free to icq me.
or if possible reply to my post on the forum.

cheers gaz😎

Need info about your MB,Ram and stuff. Seeing that your probably a nooB you can go to bios and up the fsb from 133 to 135 and take it in steps of 2. If you get to a point it cannot boot. Then youve reached the limit of either the CPU at that vcore or the ram.

You should lurke&learn here or go over to overclockers.com to find a step by step thats probably not going to be for your exact MB, but will get you close.

Watch your temperatures (if you have the resources to do so). Also remember that this will reduce the life of your parts (everything will heat up, and thus, die sooner).

HI ya,

I have an 1800+ xp with 512MB sdram, IBM Deskstar 60 gb @ 7200
me thinks i prob need DDR Ram, what do u guy think.

I realy don't know that much about over clocking, thanks for ur time guys

Best wishes

hey

ive got a little overclocking under my belt, heres my system:

1.2 Tbird @ 1.35 GHz
DDR2100 266 MHz @ 300 MHz
ECS K7S5A mobo
(geforce2 MX200- could this be holding me back any?)

Anyway, I was looking into buying an XP 1800+ (by the way, what is the clock speed for that?), and overclocking it (obviously🙂). How high could I possibly get it? Thing is, my BIOS doesnt support multiplier or voltage changes, just FSB (100,118,133, 138,150,166) , so I would have to make those changes on the chip itself...

thanks!

Here is something i wrote this may help

There have been a few guides on the internet that posted how to unlock XP processors but I feel that some where just too complicated. (i.e. Toms Guide)

So, here are my instructions and hopefully someone will benefit from them.

First, use tape to mask the top and bottom half of the L1 Bridges (Scotch Tape is fine).

Second, find the brightest crayon you have and start to color the pits gently. After a few strokes the pits should have been filled.

Third, get a cotton swab and remove excess wax. Then, dip the cotton swab with alcohol and rub any other extra residue.

Fourth, remove the tape.

Fifth, get Locktite Rear Defroster kit from your local auto store; also buy an emergency eyeglass repair kit (These are sold everywhere). The eyeglass kit should come with a magnifying glass and a small screw driver. (Having a small screw driver is vital).

Sixth, shake the defogger kit bottle vigorously and pour a very small amount of it into the cap of the kit. (Note that the cap will act as a mini bowl in which you will use to seal the bridges).

Seventh, let the liquid in the cap coagulate. (Leave it alone for a few minutes until it thickens).

Eighth, dip the tip of the screwdriver from the eyeglass repair kit in the cap of the defroster kit and stamp a seal between the contacts. (Most people try to paint a line with a needle; however this method is so much easier) Repeat this process until all the bridges are sealed. The tip of my screw driver was thin enough to leave ample room between the contacts.

Also, use the magnifying glass to see the bridges better. However, this step may be unnecessary for people with good close vision.

And that?s it. Further some people in this forum worry that Locktite is a permanent solution. However, if you do mess up you can remove the contacts with a cotton swab and nail polish remover. (Not a big deal)

Finally, if you want more volts then seal the L11s not L7s.

Sincerely,
Clocker

ah, yes I heard that on this board, with the crayon. Does that work? is that what you did (im assuming so?)?

My question is in response to your statement that if you want more voltage, to connect the L11 bridges. Does this automatically add voltage (and if so how much), or does it just unlock it for BIOS adjustment, because my board does not support voltage changes 🙁

And ive read about using the Defroster kit as the connecting element, but is there any other product that would be good (in case I cant find it...)

thanks!
