Yes, I know there is an MHL adapter to HDMI. But I need VGA!

I see that mini usb to VGA adapters are very expensive. The cheapest one I saw was on Monoprice for $24 and many people claim it doesn't work for them.

Does anyone know if I can daisychain MHL to HDMI into HDMI to VGA? Will this contraption work?

Thanks.

Phone in question is Galalxy SIII by the way.

You can daisy chain them, but HDMI to VGA is digital to analog, and that's usually where the money goes when buying a converter.

I had one that worked when I had a Surface, but I don't have it anymore and don't recall the model. But yeah there are a lot of bad products out there in that category.

as Crono said, HDMI to VGA is digital to analog

there are boxes that do the conversion, but the quality will likely be bad, you need to match the VGA output & VGA monitor resolutions, and you need a power source for the converter box

eg

http://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-...ds=HDMI+to+vga

if your TV has DVI (doubt it), HDMI-> DVI is much easier (most likely only a passive pin-head converter is needed)

With a Miracast dongle you can transmit to the screen at a distance. I'm not sure if the S3 supports that yet, though.

Also, that's via USB.

Chromecast app will be updated by the end of summer to allow screen casting. I don't remember off-hand if that will be dependent on a specific version of Android or not. I'm inclined to think not as the functionality is going into the app and not just into L. And the fact that Play Services contains the Chromecast API.

Chromecast is HDMI, he wants VGA.

The reason why I want VGA and not HDMI is because I have an old Dell VGA LCD monitor which I want to use with the Android phone.

So I ordered and received a VGA converter from ebay and it works perfectly. In fact the quality is actually quite good. The problem I am having however is that my monitor is aspect ratio 4:3 (square screen) and the phone is rectangle! So what happens is that the image is stretched out vertically on the monitor. Ex: people's heads look like cucumbers.

There is no option on the monitor itself that can solve this issue. Are there any solutions out there?

Good lord! That's crazy expensive. Good to know there's something like this out there though.
