How do I (or should I) kill off Word XP?

When I bought my Dell Inspiron Laptop, it shipped with the latest version of Microsoft Works, which includes Microsoft Word XP. Though word XP is just fine for writing papers and the like, it is somewhat of a screwy version because any template or wizard I want to use runs through this Microsoft Works portal type program that is incredibly annoying. This version of WordXP seems to be very integrated with Works, and I really dont like that.

Now I have Microsoft Office 2000 Professional but haven't installed Word 2000 because of the chaos such an installation would cause. So what should I do now? Kill WordXP and install Word 2000 by somehow cleanly removing WordXP? Is there a way to make this version of Word XP not suck by importing templates and various other things from Word 2000, and somehow getting around this Works portal thing? any input and advice will be greatly appreciated :)

I would completely uninstall Microsoft Works and then install Microsoft Office.

Here's what I did: completely uninstall Works and Word. Put in the first MS Works CD and browse to the Word folder. Run the Word setup to install a clean, standalone copy of MS Word.
