How do I obtain "US Security Clearance at the Secret level"?

Some jobs require this and I sent my resume in and told I need to have that and had to have used it in the past two years.

You can't just go out and get a security clearence. You need to be a US citizen, bass a background investigation, and be sponsered by a company/agency for the clearence. Read: you need to get a job that will get you one.

No problem. We're here to serve. BTW - it's grammAr not grammEr. Your fine is $20. Please pay the clerk on your way out.

Edit - Mikey beat me to it.

Basically if you don't have a clearance, it takes time to get one. It can take anywhere from 3 months to a year to get a Secret.
If you have already had a security clearence, it can take less time. But if a company only works with classified material,
then you won't be worth hiring. Because they won't have work for you to do while you wait for your clearance to come in.

However most companies are willing to hire you, and then you can obtain a clearance. However it sounds like the company
you want to work for, wants you to already have the clearance, and just transfer it.

If you are young and have been a good person, the DOD has a system that will be able to grant an interim clearance based on law enforcement records and credit background. That will take 2-4 days.

Then a full investigation will be started. Depending on the complexity of your life, look at anywhere from 3-24 months. The interim will be good until/unless they choose to deny you a clearance.
