How do I obtain an ISBN?

Hi,

I've got some conference proceedings that I'd like to make available in print; does anyone know how to obtain an ISBN?

I've goggled it and I don't find the information exactly trustworthy. I know there are some self/small publishers here that may be able to tell me if i'm going the wrong direction.

How you obtain the ISBN depends on your publishing and printing methods. Do you want someone else to handle putting together the title page, indexes, etc? If so, they will be your publisher and will handle ISBN assignment (along with CIP). They will also likely be handling your printing.

If not, then you will need to obtain your ISBN directly (not familiar with those methods).

I think if you self-publish on Amazon, you can pay extra and get an ISBN in addition to the Amazon stock #.

Skorp0's got it. They're expensive for just one, and it would probably be easier to try and use one of the 'self-publishing' services to get a cheap ISBN.
