How do I move backup files made by Vista backup utility to a new external drive?

I'm using Vista and have a few backup files made by Vista's backup utility which is currently stored in an external USB 2.0 drive.

I've bought a larger external drive and I want to transfer the data from the old external drive to the new external drive and I've tried:

1. attaching both external drive and select all (mediaid.bin incl) -> copy and paste
2. copying data from old drive to desktop and then copy from desktop to new drive

Both drives are NTFS formatted. It appears to transfer ok but when I checked the data on the new external drive, it's far LESS than the data on old drive (right click drive in Computer -> properties). I think Vista is resisting moving some backup up files. There was no error prompts.

Please help. Why is this happening?

BTW, before posting on here I did a few simple tests to check the integrity of my PC. Here's what I did:

1. Ran Vista Memory Diagnostics Tool. Selected "extended" option, 3 passes. No error.

2. Ran Vista Check Disk utility. Selected "attempt recovery of bad sectors" option. No error on all drives (PC, external old and new).

3. Ran Vista Disk Defragmenter utility on all drives (PC, external old and new).

4. Ran Windows Live OneCare online scanner on all drives (PC, external old and new). No virus or spyware detected.

5. Ran Trend Micro Housecall online scanner on all drives (PC, external old and new). No virus or spyware detected.

As I said earlier, there's a lot less MB on the new external drive after the transfer. Although it doesn't appear that the files are corrupted as I can restore some of them fine (haven't tested 100%).

I also just noticed the following:

Same folder on OLD external drive (file properties: 0 files, 2 folders, 0 bytes):

Same folder on NEW external drive (file properties: 322 files, 3 folders, 17.3 GB):
