How do I modify a ATA controller card into a RAID card?

Does anyone have any information on this? Is it tough to do for the DIY? I have a Maxtor/Promise ATA100 controller card that I would love to turn into a RAID card, but don't know how to.

TIA,

Sal

I ve seen mods on the net for promise U66 to Fasttrack (raid),
its been a single resistor that was needed.
I think they hardened this "patch" in later series though it still could be possible.

"remember the mod only works for the ultra 100 card & not the newer TX2 one!"

Yup, the mod can only be done on the original Ultra66 and Ultra100 cards. The older cards used the old style large bios chip that could be unplugged and soldered to while the TX models come with the newer small bios ship that is almost impossible to modify without ruining something in the process. I've done both the Ultra66 and Ultra100 mods and they are both pretty easy to modify if you are patient and have basic soldering skills. The parts necessary can be found at your local Radio Shack. The Ultra66 mod is a bit easier since it only requires one resistor and a bios flash. Good luck! 🙂
