How do I manually uninstall programs in WinXP?

I need to know the registry edits required to make Windows XP think that a program has been uninstalled.

Here's the problem - Lionhead's game Black and White is corrupted somehow, and I need to remove it. However, the uninstall link or option in Windows Add/Remove Programs doesn't work. Simply removing the program folder won't do anything. Normally I'd just re-install, however when I try this the Installshield detects that the program is already installed and only asks me if I want to uninstall it - which doesn't work as I've already mentioned. I'm stuck in a Catch 22 - I can't uninstall until it's fixed, and I can't fix it without uninstalling first!

Please help - this is driving me mad.

Thanks!

I had this problem before and found the best way to handle this was to use "TweakXP" and remove the program from windowsxp "add or remove program list". I found when install shield looks to see if a program is installed, it checks the programs in Windows xp "Change or Remove Program". TweakXP has a module for removing programs from that list.

Aaaargh! I've got the very same problem with Intel System Monitor, but I'm running Win2K.
I don't suppose TweakXP will work, right - is there a Tweak for 2K?
Any other advice?

Thanks in advance,

Download RegCleaner (it's a freeware) & get rid of all registry settings for the program.

Urgh.....used the RegCleaner program and did get the program uninstalled, but the reinstall has some sort of bad error and won't complete the installation.
I think it might be time for a reformat, and I was SO hoping to avoid that.......:(

I wanted to add in to my earlier post as well, to get it out of the windows installer go into the registry and find:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\
and remove your item from there.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck IdahoB

Heh - actually TweakXP sorted this out for me months ago - I was quite surprised to see this thread re-surface.
