How do I make usb flash drive bootable?

I have a dimension 8400 which is capable of usb booting. However I just can't figure out how to make a usb drive bootable. I do not have access to a floppy drive, so that makes it a bit difficult, but there has to be a way.

I spent an hour trying all those guides, can't get them to work.

The hp utility keeps saying no dos system files are found, I downloaded a bunch of different dos images, but none worked.

I'd appreciate it if you can walk me through the hp diskonkey utility.
 
Sorry, my Abit IC7 board doesn't have a "bootable USB" option, so can't offer any further specific advice, for what you're asking.
