XP enables cool N quiet mode by default for your laptop. Go into the power management and change it to "Always On"

Control Panel --> Power Options --> Power Schemes tab --> Select "Always On" from the Power Scheme drop-down menu.

If the option is unavailable, you need to make sure your chipset drivers are current.

On AC or battery? Well, for AC just change the power scheme to always ON, so it will be running at the full speed of 2.0 GHz

For battery, there is a well know issue with the CPU driver for WinXP that locks it to 800 MHz on battery operation only. XP is the only OS affected, and there are some turn arounds that may or may not work. Check the emachines thread.

Thank you!

That is exactly what I needed!

Plus mine being a barebones doesn't come with the best drivers...I used the via ones and they work fine...does that mean I have the same chipset as the emechines 64bit laptop?
