How Do I Make My Laptop Screen More Readable?

I have a Dell I8200 laptop with a UXGA screen (1600*1200 res). At this resolution it makes text and icons, amongst other things, quite small and therefore straining to read. If I decrease the res, the clarity of the lcd decreases quite visibly. Is there anyway to make text and all other things on my laptop appear larger? There's gotta be something I can do to save my eyesight. Thanks for your help!

xp?

in control panel, then 'display', then 'appearance' tab there is a font size setting.

then in the 'advanced' button, there's a drop down box where you can change the size of the icons and their text.

Yes, XP.

That sounds good, but will it only change the text of the icons and make nothing else bigger?

in XP go to display -> appearance -> effects
check the box that says "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts"
select ClearType

try that

And if that doesn't do it - try a different font and make it bold. I like Tahoma 8 pt bold on my XGA laptop.

BTW - you posted the same question in the General Hardware Forum - that is not cool! :-(
