How Do I Make My Laptop Screen More Readable?

I have a Dell I8200 laptop with a UXGA screen (1600*1200 res). At this resolution it makes text and icons, amongst other things, quite small and therefore straining to read. If I decrease the res, the clarity of the lcd decreases quite visibly. Is there anyway to make text and all other things on my laptop appear larger? There's gotta be something I can do to save my eyesight. Thanks for your help!

try 800*600. since it is exactly half the resolution, it should be perfectly clear. one of my friends has that laptop and I dont see how he can stand everything so small - he sits like 1" away from teh screen

I have the SXGA+ screen and I can't even stand 1400x1050. I run at either 800x600 or 1024x768. (I actually LIKE pixel bluring)

Hrmm, I'll see if the 800*600 thing works. Any other ideas out there? Perhaps I would get used to the pixel blurring, but I don't know.

Windows allows you to change the size of icons and text. Look in Accessibility Options or something like, and try display properties under appearance.

if the letters are half a millimeter tall, it doesn't make a difference whether they're cleartyped or not - its just too small ;)

I have XP. Are there any options found in it that can help? I looked at that cleartype option, but it would appear to have nothing to do with size. I also found a dpi setting that seems to make some things bigger. What is that all about?

I suggest you leave the resolution alone - LCDs are only really sharp at their native resolution. Go into Control Panel, Display, Advanced, and select large or custom text size. Then go into Appearance and make the screen fonts bold if necessary and try different ones.

Go to your display properties, settings, advanced
You should be able to set your font size to "Large Fonts", or be able to customize the size..

Maybe you should get your eyes checked? I absolutely love the 1400x1050 resolution of my 15" Presario 2700T. I sit about 3 feet away and have no problems with it.

Having that extra space really helps out in JDeveloper.
