Hey everybody

Well my girlfriend just signed up for DSL internet though Telus and i am trying to set it up on her computer for her. When i run the install disk, the wizard tells me that ic cannot find a network card and that i have to instal one.

I know for sure that the internet connection is working as i am using it right now on my laptop.
I also know that her computer does have a network card because i can plug the ethernet cord into the back of her computer and there also used to be cable internet on it. I just finished reformatting her computer and putting windows 98 back on it so there shouldn't be anything wrong with it.

Any help would be extremely appreciated

Thanks

hey thanks for the help jack

well my problem is in the first step. when i check the system - devices, the only network device that comes up is a dial up network adaptor. I know that the computer has dial up but it also must have a LAN / ethernet card as this computer used to be hooked up to a cable modem. how do i get that ethernet card to show up in the device manager.

ps: just to remind, i'm using windows 98

Open the computer and see if there is a Network card (NIC), find the make and see if you have Software Drivers for it.

Start the computer Look at the device manager and see if there is a Hardware entry for Network Card. If there is an entry for NIC remove it, switch off the computer and boot it one time without a card.

Switch off insert the card reboot and install the drivers.

Check again in the device manger to see if the entry is clean (no ghost and no IRQ conflict).

Configure the Network: Windows Network - Installing & Sharing

If you do not have drivers or the card does seem to be right get another card it only $5.
