How do I make my AMD GPU scale correctly (maintain aspect ratio)?

There is only 1 correct way to scale resolution and that is to maintain the aspect ratio. (for some odd reason, the default is wrong scaling for both AMD and nVidia)

AMD taunts me with the option but its grayed out! How do I ungray that option and get it to work correctly?

You need to lower your resolution first after that you can then set the scaling that you want. The setting sticks after returning to your native resolution. I also find it baffling why you have to do that

Thanks, that works.
It seems to returns to a grayed out stretch when I return to native resolution, but that is just misleading. It does work and whenever I switch back again to a lower resolution it goes to maintain aspect ratio as I had last set it.
