If you are not experienced with RJ-45 crimping do not crimp.

Commercially made cables are very inexpensive.

If you are not experienced with RJ-45 crimping do not crimp.

Link: Ethernet CAT5 Patch Cables.

If you insist on crimping, full instructions here.

Link: How to make CAT5

To avoid future headaches, do Not Wire Crossover in the wall.

For occasional use of Crossover cable you can use a Reversed Coupler.

Link: Reversed Coupler

Two Straight Cable with this Coupler make a Crossover cable.

Actually, if you're not experienced at rj-45 crimping, you should go ahead and try it. I don't think there would be any way to really get experienced at it without actually doing it. You gotta start somewhere.

In a pinch I've taken the cable apart and spliced wires together. The network guys will scream bloody murder...but it worked great ;)

well yea i guess you can do that if all else fails but it is not at all recomended plus you should loose some of the speed because of it, not to mention the gained interferance.

Its not that hard to crimp. The first 10 times mite be shotty crimps, but then its pretty simple, and easy....

Yeah, but unless you are starting a carrier of a professional installer, most people need only few cables. So they crimp less than 10, they would save (may be) $5, and they are stuck with poorly made cables.

Self crimped cable by the inexperienced is like moon shining, might make you network blind.
