I always like the echoecho.com guides.
Personally, if you're making a simple site, just use a cheap (or free FirstPage) Wysiwyg.
If there's something the Wysiwyg can't do for you then dive into code.

lmao! If my wife had her own account on Anandtech, I have no doubt she would have created this exact same thread.
She was asking me for help, I pointed to the computer, said "go to Anandtech. Now, search for threads that say "website" and have posts by "Rossman"
Last night, she yelled to me "how to I load it onto our website?" I told her she'd need some FTP software to do it. This thread has *all* the answers she's going to need 🙂
Now, I just have to keep an eye out on my credit card that she used for the domain name registration and web site hosting that I cancelled *immediately* after finding out what she was planning on spending.

I think that's an interesting disconnect. I've had to explain (and watch the glazed expressions appear) how the internet works to a few people who were putting up a site. We don't think of it, but the actual nature of Server\client relationships that is the internet is a big mystery to most.
Is there a good diagram out there somewhere?
right now i'm just using the free ad supported godaddy hosting.. my wife made a website on microsoft publisher.. i was playing around with that for a bit.. uploaded it, and it's up but, it's just kinda funky.. it's all off to the right like the ads are pushing them over to the right.. i have no idea why, but i'll keep tinkering
is there any one host that's better than the other? should i be using a unix host or windows host?
